Technology is great! And good as it is to detach ourselves from it as often as we can, there are many times when it can be a real help.
There are tones of apps on the market which makes it easy to get caught up in the latest social media craze or game. So we decided to look at the mindset apps you can use to help you.
The brilliance of these apps is how they provide an escape from the stresses of daily life for a couple of minutes and once you're finished you can put down the phone feeling a lot more relaxed.
The importance of training regularly and eating healthily is a huge focus, but very little attention is paid to developing the mental aspect of our wellbeing.
We were looking for a challenge that would help work out our mental muscle, so we tried out Lumosity. It's really enjoyable but challenging too, so it gives a great workout to the mind.
On start-up you complete an assessment to build up a profile of cognitive performance. The app then uses the profile results to suggest daily workouts that help develop any weak areas. The difficulty adjusts to make it enough of a challenge while being enjoyable and helping you relax.
There are tones of games on the app which gives plenty of variety and helps prevent boredom. Definitely recommend trying this one out!
How many times have you woke up feeling worse than when you went to bed? Maybe you're waking up in the middle of a deep sleep. The beauty of the Sleep Cycle is that it helps stop that from happening.
The app is really simple to get going with and provides great insight. By setting a window of time where you want to be woken, say 6-6.30am, the phone will wake you at just the right time.
It uses the phones accelerometer to track your movement while you sleep and with the science of sleep being applied it wakes you at just the right time.
Another big benefit of Sleep Cycle is that it builds trends of how your daily habits are affecting your sleep. Before you set the alarm time, register different habits you have over the day and in time you will get trends of positive and negative habits. Really helpful if you find yourself feeling exhausted all of the time.
This is a beautiful and really useful app. The downside - in app purchases. There are a limited number of pictures and colours that can be used free of charge, but if you want to become Van Gogh then you'll have to pay out.
The app is really enjoyable and provides a good release for a couple of minutes during the day - the great thing is you can build up the image over the course of the week, you don't need to finish it in one sitting.
It's easy to use and brings you back to your school days, when I couldn't manage to keep inside the lines. That's another benefit to this app - it makes me look like a real artist.
